If you were to ask 15 different people what public relations (PR) is, you would most likely get 15 very different answers. Many businesses do not even stop to consider making PR a part of their online marketing plan because they associate it with huge companies who have millions to spend on radio and tv ads every month. One of the great things about PR is that it works for any type of company whether small and local and larger and nation-wide. What to Blog About

The greatest frustration for most people is figuring out what to write about. Obviously it is easy to write up a blog if you are familiar with the topic and especially if you are passionate about it. The challenge with business blogging is that people get caught up thinking they are supposed to be blogging about their company on a regular basis. There was a very popular book out a while ago called “He’s Just Not That Into You”…apply this to you company. The fact is that most people are just not that into your business and what’s happening. So why would I tell you to start a business blog? Because you are not going to blog about your business all the time! Remember that social media is all about building relationships and you cannot do that if you are always talking about yourself. Choosing the Blog Program
When you are ready to get started with your new blog the first thing you have to do is figure out what blogging program to use and where to put it. There are a few options to consider before getting started with your new blog. One option is that you can choose to host your blog somewhere on your current website which would require that you either custom program a blog into your site or upload a pre-existing blog program to your site. Another option you have is having your blog page somewhere off site. If you choose to do that then I recommend looking at one of the blogging applications mentioned below. Keep in mind that if you have a website and you host the blog off site it can sometimes be difficult for users to get back to your company’s man website. Continue reading
